BIOGRAPHY: CARLO DONATI

Carlo Donati nasce a Zibello (Parma) nel 1965.
Padre, madre e famiglia emiliana d.o.c., vive e lavora a Milano da sempre.

Nel 1978 riceve in regalo "Some Girls" dei Rolling Stones: l'incontro con Mick Jagger cambierà profondamente la sua visione del mondo.

Si laurea in architettura al Politecnico di Milano nel 1992.
Collabora con lo studio Belgiojoso al progetto di ristrutturazione dei chiostri di Sant'Eustorgio e di Palazzo Reale a Milano.Dal 1993 al 1995, lavora per lo studio Gregotti Associati International alla realizzazione dei piani particolareggiati dei P.R.G. di Torino e Livorno.

Nel 1992 scopre con colpevole ritardo Kind of Blue di Miles Davis.
Nel 1995 risiede a New York dove, in qualità di consulente responsabile per l'architettura del gruppo Versace, si occupa dei lavori di ristrutturazione della townhouse di Gianni Versace e conduce studi storico-architettonici su palazzo Vanderbilt, sede del negozio sulla Fifth Avenue.

Nel 1996 fonda, insieme a Adriano Donati e Massimo Avanzini, la Farnese Contract, impresa che opera come general contractor edile collaborando con i più affermati studi di progettazione.

Vive e lavora a Milano dove nel 1999 apre il suo Studio professionale occupandosi della progettazione di abitazioni di prestigio, negozi, uffici e resorts in Italia e all'estero.

Nel 1999 si sposa a Las Vegas con Silvia.
Una sana boccata di autentico kitsch nel grande mare del minimal.

Nel 2005 nasce Alessandro.

Recentemente lo Studio si è occupato della progettazione del master plan del nuovo quartiere Segrate Village (Milano) e di un residence nel centro di Milano. Ha curato l'immagine di Aldo Coppola, progettando showroom, uffici e salone.
Attualmente è impegnato nella realizzazione di un residence con spa in Calabria e un resort e spa a Roma, di un nuovo edificio residenziale a Milano, di appartamenti e ville di prestigio a Milano, Londra, Roma, Modena e dello showroom del marchio Liberty of London. Lo Studio ha progettato il nuovo concept di Officina Slowear e ne ha seguito l'immagine coordinata, realizzando i nuovi negozi da Hong Kong a Milano.

L'approccio minimale al progetto è sempre contaminato da suggestioni cromatiche e grafiche ispirate dal contesto. Ogni intervento è seguito in tutte le fasi di realizzazione, dagli aspetti costruttivi e impiantistici allo sviluppo dell'interior fino al disegno degli arredi. Lo Studio ha approfondito anche il tema della progettazione di qualità con il sistema costruttivo prefabbricato in legno. La ricerca di nuovi materiali e di nuove tecniche costruttive diviene continuo stimolo per la realizzazione di progetti unici.

I lavori dello Studio, oggetto di interesse da parte della stampa internazionale, sono pubblicati sulle più autorevoli riviste del settore e su numerosi volumi sia in Italia sia all'estero.

Carlo Donati was born in Zibello (Parma) in 1965.
Father, mother and family originaly 'emiliani'. He has always lived and worked in Milan.

In 1978 he recives as a present the album "Some Girls" by the Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger changes his worldview for ever.

He graduates at the Politecnico of Milan in 1992. He collaborates with the Office of Belgiojoso at the renovation of Sant'Eustorgio Cloister and of Palazzo Reale, both in Milan. He then works in the office of Gregotti Associati International, from 1993 to 1995, at the implementation of the P.R.G. of the cities of Turin and Livorno.

In 1992 he discovers, with conscious delay "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis.

In 1995 he lives in New York where, as a consultant architect of Versace Group, he renovates Gianni Versace's townhouse and carries out researches on the historical Vanderbilt mansion, home of the store on the Fifth Avenue.

In 1996, together with Adriano Donati and Massimo Avanzini, he establishes the Farnese Contract, a firm that operates as a general building contractor, working with the most successful design studios.

He lives and works in Milan, where in 1999 he opens his own professional studio, designing luxury houses, shops, offices and resorts throughout Italy and abroad.

In 1999 he marries Silvia in Las Vegas.

Recently Carlo Donati Studio has designed the master plan of the new residential district of Segrate Village in Milan and a residence house in the centre of Milan. It has also reviewed Aldo Coppola's image, designing the showroom, the offices and the hair dressing' saloon. At the moment the firm is working on a resort and spa centre in Calabria and on a spa centre in Rome, on a new residential building in Milan and on luxury villas and apartments in Milan, London, Rome and Modena. It has also designed a new showroom of the brand Liberty of London. Lately the firm has worked on a new concept of the brand Officina Slowear. It has followed the corporate image, creating the new stores of Hong Kong and Milan.

The minimalist approach to design is always contaminated with coloured and graphic suggestions inspired from the existing context. Every project's step is followed in all its development, the structural feature, the plant project, the interior design to the creation of customized furniture. The Studio has also skilled itself on the design of wooden prefabricated buildings. The research for new materials and new construction techniques has become a continuous inspiration to create unique projects.

Most of the firm's works have been object of interest by international press and have been published in the most popular magazines and numerous books both in Italy and abroad.
