VILLA CA' COLOMBI - Castana, Pavia
La villa è stata realizzata ex-novo su un terreno collinare dal quale si gode la vista dei vigneti dell'Oltrepò pavese.
L'edificio è interamente prefabbricato in legno su fondamenta in calcestruzzo e palificazioni fino a 15 metri di profondità. La scelta di questo metodo costruttivo è stata determinata da un insieme di fattori: gli straordinari vantaggi di leggerezza su un terreno a rischio di smottamenti, i costi ridotti rispetto alle tecniche tradizionali e infine i brevi tempi di realizzazione.
La "sfida" è consistita nell'utilizzare la tecnologia di un sistema costruttivo prevalentemente usato per baite montane o costruzioni temporanee per esprimere un linguaggio e un'immagine architettonica contemporanea.
La casa è costituita da due corpi: il primo ad un solo piano a doppia altezza che ospita la zona giorno, la sala pranzo e la cucina, il secondo a due piani si affaccia sul soggiorno dal soppalco e ospita la zona notte, i bagni e tutti i locali di servizio. Il soppalco è un vero e proprio ambiente di raccordo fra i due elementi che disimpegna la zona notte e entra a far parte del soggiorno.
Mentre i materiali delle finiture esterne (il rivestimento della facciata a doghe bianche, il percorso esterno in teak e la copertura in ardesia) si rifanno alla tradizione costruttiva americana, l'aspetto architettonico progettuale si connota di altre caratteristiche quali l'asimmetria, il taglio moderno della pianta con l'incastro diagonale dei due volumi e la pulizia formale degli ambienti.
Il disegno delle aperture ha risposto all'esigenza di dare importanza alla spettacolarità del panorama: il prospetto principale che si sviluppa in lunghezza verso la vallata è ampiamente vetrato con la zona giorno illuminata da grandi serramenti scorrevoli e la zona notte disegnata dalle aperture delle camere. L'aggetto della camera padronale muove il prospetto e si protende come un occhio verso la vallata con una vetrata fuori scala.
The villa is a new contruction on a side hill, that offers a panoramic view of the vineyards of the Oltrepo' Pavese area.
The building is entirely prefabricated in wood on concrete foundations and pilings fifteen metres deep. This construction method was chosen for several reasons: the extraordinary benefits in terms of lightness, on a site where there is a risk of landslide, cheap realization costs in comparison to the traditional building techniques and, last but not least, the short period of time necessary for the construction.
The challenge consisted in using this constructive system technology , generally employed for mountain retreats, or temporary buildings, to express a contemporary architectural language and image.
The villa consists of two building blocks: the first one on a single floor of twice the normal height, where the living- dining area and the kitchen are located. The second one has two levels and faces the living room from the mezzanine floor where the bedrooms, the bathrooms and service areas are located.
The mezzanine is actually a connecting area between the two elements that makes the bedrooms independent and introduces the living room.
The materials used outside ( the white staves coating the front, the external passage tiled in teak and the ardesia stone made roof) refer to the American building tradition, the architectural, projectual aspect is, on the other hand, characterized by asymmetry and the modern design of the plan with the diagonal insertion of the two volumes and the "clean" form of the different areas. The window openings are due to the necessity of giving importance to the panoramic view; the main front follows the valley direction with wide glass areas and the living area lighted by huge sliding windows. The bedroom area is designed by the openings of the single rooms. The projection of the main bedroom articulates the facade, and moves towards the valley, like a big eye, thanks to an oversize window.
